INTERLUDE

1. Plot Summary
Mrs. Judy Tippin and Mr. Tippin were a couple, they went to Mr. Farrelly’s office to stand their account over but Mr. Farrelly wasn’t there, then they met Mr. Maloney. Mrs. Judy said that she knew Mr. Farrelly was when Mr. Farrelly still bought scrap and old clothes. While they were waiting in the room, Mrs. Judy told her husband about what made Mr. Farrelly became a coarse man, it was because of Kathleen Moira’s rejection. Actually the room they were in was Kathleen Moira’s house, her father had an account on Mr. Farrelly, then he couldn’t pay. Mr. Farrelly liked Kathleen Moira and asked her to be his wife but she reject him and from that time the house became his. Then Mr. Farrelly came and asked Mr. Maloney about his money and about people who had paid their account but he was disappointed to Maloney and he decide to cut Maloney’s wages then he entered his office. Maloney told him that there was Mrs. Judy Tippin and her husband. Mr. Farrelly didn’t like Mr. Tippin because he held the pipe then Mr. Tippin decided to wait on the outside of the office. Judy told Mr.Farrelly that she had sold a cow and actually Mr.Farrelly knew that because he saw that in the market. Judy told him that she would clear off everything on christmas but unfortunately he rejected the idea. Mr. Farelly asked Maloney to make out Judy’s account and asked him to see about the flickering light. After Maloney went out from the room, Mr. Farrelly called Judy to come in to hand over her bag. The ribbon replaced the broken bag cacth, Mr. Farrelly wanted to cut the ribbon but Judy didn’t and after that the light went out then Judy told him about Kathleen Moira and about the past but Mr. Farrelly didn’t want to talk about the past then after get her account Judy went out, then Mr. Tippin asked her and got his wife told him that they didn’t get any dispensation. Although he was also disappointed, he cheered his wife up and told her that Mr. Ferrelly actually didn’t have, that is that they still have one another. 2. Plot structure
a. Introduction
Mr. And Mrs. Tippin went to Mr. Farrelly’s office to stand their account over
“Sure, just sit down, Mrs. Tippin”
b. Complication
-When Mrs. Judy Tippin told her husband about the cause of Mr. Farrelly’s coarse
“Maybe it’s that, that’s making Farrelly the crusty spider that he is”
c. Climax
When Judy asked Mr. Farrelly to give her dispensation so that they will pay around Chistmas but Mr.Farrelly didn’t want to.
“Mr. Farrelly doesn’t agree”
d. Falling Action
when Judy and Mr. Ferrelly talked about the past, bout Kathleen Moira and about the past
“Oh, ‘tis little choice we have. Back we look to the graves of poor things we loved”
e. Resolution
Mr. Farrelly didn’t give Mr. And Mrs. Tippin any other chance except to pay their account before christmas.
“No luck at all Tippin. I tried...ah, but sure it was no good.”
3. Setting
a. Time
On early evening in late autumn.
b. Place
Mr. Farrelly’s business office.
4. Character
a. Mrs. Judy Tippin
- brave: she was brave to face Mr.Ferrelly alone and she was also brave when she said “You’re a hard man, Mr. Farrelly”
- hard worker: she had tried to get the money by selling the cow.
b. Mr. Tippin
-critical : “If man has two pennies, he’ll give ye one. But if he has two poun’ he’ll give ye nothing”
-coward and obedient : “All right then Judy. If you say it, I’ll run”
- wise : “Sure, haven’t we one another!...I’ll take your arm”
c. Mr. Farrelly
- Bad tempered : Don’t contradict me!...”
- Cruel and Coarse : “...and don’t forget your accounts due on Wednesday morning”
d. Mr. Maloney
- very diligent: “
- Obedient: “Yes, sir”
5. Tone
Irony : - Mr. Farrelly is a richman but he doen’t want to help the others by giving the account’s dispensation for the borrowers just like what Mr. Tippin said “If man has two pennies, he’ll give ye one. But if he has two poun’ he’ll give ye nothing”
- Mr. Farrelly loved Kathleen Moira but he took Moira’s house as the pay of the debt.
6. Theme
The Interlude’s theme is that wealth cannot buy happiness
7. Point of View
The point of view of Interlude script is Third person omniscient.
